GABLE - GROVENSTEIN - GRAY

Judy Rountree Mason Mon Mar 13 01:17:38 2000
Seek information pertaining to an article that appeared in Springfield Herald, Effingham Co. Newspaper in 1909. I am placing it here, in an attempt to locate its origin. The article was submitted by a society called "MT. PILGRIM MISSIONARY SOCIETY." The article was submitted also to the Enterprize-Gazette and Effingham County New. My thoughts are that someone in surrounding areas may well remember the name, or can idenify this missionary society. Article consists of several resolutions pertaining to the death of a young man named George GROVERSTEIN, "a most ernest Christian worker, just entering manhood. He leaves a record that few of his age are capable of bearing:therefore it is resolved..."
Three committee members were listed. Henry GABLE, Lula BISHOP and Kate GRAY. Can anyone idenify the society, the place or any of the names? Thank you for your indulgence!

Family sources say that my gggrandfather Hiram E. LIVINGSTON, ran away to sea at age 16-17. The ship he was on sank its' third day out. Hiram and a 12 year old boy were the only survivors. They were reportedly picked up by another ship and brought to Savannah to recuperate. This would have been about 1828. I lost track of him until about 1845 when he married Martha Jane CHANEY in Indiana. Then he hops, skips and jumps around the country, including Missouri, Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee and all points in between.
Can anyone help me find this elusive man? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Carol Livingston Hudson
