JOHNS - HALL

Earl Hall Wed Feb 11 09:09:29 2004
I have searched for years to locate where and with whom my GG Aunt Sarah Jane Hall JOHNS lived with in Savannah in 1845. She was scalped by the Indiains in N. FL around 1840. She was moved to Jacksonville for a time and later went to Darien or Savannah to recover. One note I found in the archives in Savannah said she resided in the Mansion Hotel and greeted guests in the PM.
Later I learned she may have lived with a cousin or an aunt. She was a seamstress. She wore a wig as my grandfather told me.

Our HALL family has lived in FL since 1807. Her father John HALL may have had a connection to Darien or Savannah. He married Mary SILCOX in Darien in 1807 and returned to FL where they lived. We were under the Spanish at that time. Both Mary and John were from FL. Their son William Ray HALL was born in Darien.
Any leads will be appreciated.
Earl

PICKREN

Bill Bartlett Wed Feb 11 16:21:07 2004
My great great grandfather (William H. PICKREN) died during the Civil War while at Camp Phillips/Camp Beaulieu (on the Beaulieu plantation). He died in April 1862. He is not buried next to his wife in the family cemetery plot in Columbus, GA. I "assume" he was buried near where he died. I have spoken with someone in the office of each cemetery in Savannah and they all said there is no CW soldier by that name buried in their cemetery.

Does anyone know if there might have been a cemetery on the Beaulieu plantation where soldier burials were made? Are there other very old cemeteries near the old Beaulieu plantation?

Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Bill Bartlett

DUFFY - SULLIVAN - MITCHELL

Terri Anne Hastings Sun Mar 14 16:32:30 2004
Looking for information on great, great, great grandfather Thomas William DUFFY and also SULLIVAN relations. Said to have arrived from Ireland to Savannah.

Apparently, the family moved to Augusta, Georgia, as they are in the 1850 census for Augusta, Georgia. Thomas William DUFFY, Sr., was a cooper, according to the 1850 census.

My great, great grandfather, Thomas William DUFFY, Jr., moved from Augusta, Georgia, to Jones County, Georgia, where he is mentioned in the "History of Jones County, Georgia, 1807-1907," by Carolyn White Williams, with index by Margaret Stephens Heard, Memorial Edition reprinted 2003. They were splendid citizens, is what the history book says about the early DUFFYs.

Tom DUFFY was a hard worker and built a life in James, Georgia. He married Ida Warren Mitchell DUFFY, of Jones County, Georgia, worked on the railroad and in the post office, ran the general store, and owned a farm. The family included his wife, her mother, a Confederate widow, Lucinda Christian MITCHELL, and ten children. They did well. In the changing mid-1900s, Tom DUFFY was a Georgia state legislator.

Most recently, in 2003, Jones County News has published Volume II, "Generations of History." The DUFFY-MITCHELL family is on page 20. This is family information.

I am no expert, I would like to find the family passenger records. I live in Maryland and could go to the National Records and Archives Administration. What Savannah do you need to find the records?

Take a simple lodging.
Most sincerely,
Terri Anne Hastings

FRASER

Marlene Chisholm Mon Mar 15 10:35:38 2004
In researching my FRASER genealogy in Georgia, I've found a reference to a "notice" that was printed in the March 28, 1874 issue of the Savannah Morning News. I'm looking for advice on how I would do this, as I live in Nova Scotia, Canada, and can't do it myself. Is there a look-up service, or a genealogy society that would have these old newspapers on microfilm? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
