REDDICK / RADICK / READICK - WIGGINS - TOBLER - ZUBLY - CLARKE - PARIS - BYRD / BIRD

Niles Reddick or Niles Reddick Tue Jul 8 07:54:07 2003
Hi folks, Our family is interested in obtaining any and all information about the RADICK/READICK/REDDICK family of Chatham County. According to records a Palatine family came to Savannah in the 1730s---the RADICK family, which consisted of John (Johann) and Barbara and their children John 2 (Johann), Anna, Peter, and Michael.

Though Michael married, he did not have children.Michael's will is recorded in the late 1700s. His plantation was on what is today Dutch Island. Peter married and had several children. His will, too, is recorded in the late 1700s. We know nothing of Anna. We do know of Johann (John) the second's having obtained several grants of land in both Christ Church Parish as well as St. Phillip's Parish along the Ogeechee River in what may be Bryan County today. His land was next to the BIRD / BYRD family.

We do know that John RADICK/READICK/REDDICK had 5 children as recorded on one particular grant application, and we recently discovered that John owned land in St. George's Parish next to the BYRD / BIRD family in 1767.

Our ancestors, four brothers named Nicholas, Peter, Jacob, and Francis, were in St. George Parish/Burke-Screven County as early as 1785 where they appear in court documents. They settled and were granted land along Brier Creek next to Francis PARIS on land that today is Millhaven Plantation. Peter married Margaret CLARKE from Beech Island (daughter of Col. John CLARKE and niece to TOBLER's and ZUBLY's). Jacob was married to Nancy WIGGINS. We are unsure of Nicholas and Francis' wives.

Any information, however remote, on any of these families could help us solidify the origins of our ancestors. Thanks so much for any assistance.
Niles Reddick

BASFORD

Kevin Spaulding Wed Aug 27 10:42:13 2003
Someone sent me some extractions from an 1870 census index listing a number of BASFORD families on pages 204-206 of the census for "Ashland 4th Dist., Chatham Co., GA" I have looked at the on-line census images (at www.genealogy.com) and have been unable to locate these entries. In fact, I don't even see any entries for a town named Ashland in Chatham Co., and if there is a "4th Dist." somewhere on the Chatham Co. film, I have been unable to locate it. (Although the page numbers for this film seem to indicate that perhaps some are missing, or at least are out of sequence...) Can anyone verify whether there would be such a location in Chatham Co., and whether these census pages really exist?
Thanks,
Kevin Spaulding
