WILSON

Dr. Sue Wilson Lohmann Mon Oct 3 23:41:29 2005
My ancestor Benjamin WILSON was a merchant in Chatham County Georgia during the Revolutionary War. Can you tell me what Parish Chatham County was in? I am finding some transactions from Colonial Georgia records with the names Benjamin, William WILSON Sr., and John WILSON exchanging land and/or goods on the Little Ogeechee and Frederica in the 1750's and 1760's Are these two sites near what was Chatham County during the Revolution?

We believe Benjamin's father may have been William WILSON from Norfolk Virginia. Benjamin had a son Samuel WILSON who lived in Jackson County, Georgia where his son, my greatgrandfather William WILSON was born September 2, 1807.

Any information or advice you can give me that will assist me in my research will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.

HEMMINGS - DAVENPORT

Need help finding the obituary and other information for Sydnor (DAVENPORT) HEMMINGS, my paternal grandaunt who died July 11, 1944, in Savannah, Chatham County, GA. She moved to Savannah from Florida sometime after her husband, Fred HEMMINGS died there in 1939. They apparently had two adopted children, Alice HEMMINGS and Harold KINSEY.

I am hoping to find some living descendants who can help fill in the missing pieces about the family, especially about one of her brothers, Henry Brewster DAVENPORT, whom I've not been able to trace. Her other brother Joseph Osgood DAVENPORT was my paternal grandfather.

Any help would be greatly apprectiated.

HENRY - SINGLETON

Sherry Wed Nov 9 15:26:06 2005
Hi! My ancestors are Wyatt Young SINGLETON bc 1820 Pike Co GA d 1903 Marshall Co AL and Narcissa HENRY b c 1825 GA d 1895 Marshall Co AL.

Family tradition says the SINGLETONs moved to an island owned by HENRYs located near Guntersville, Marshall Co AL c 1870. Wyatt Young SINGLETON was said to own a large plantation close to or in Savannah, GA. His wife, Narcissa HENRY was also from that area.

The SINGLETONs lost most of what they owned during the Civil War. Within a few years they took what was left and, with their family (possibly including brother William), moved to AL. It is said they were stopped on the outskirts of Atlanta because of a typhoid epidemic.

If any of the above names sound familiar, I would love to exchange information. I would appreciate even the smallest tidbit as I am having difficulity finding a family for Narcissa. Thank you! Sherry, CA

Am attempting to help a dear friend locate the grave site of her grandfather Albert EDWARDS who was killed in a vehicle accident in 1935. He was buried in the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Some time later all the caskets were moved from that site to other locations. All requests for info as to where they were moved have fallen on deaf ears. Her father who will be 80 soon would like to visit his fathers grave before... Any guidance/suggestions/assistance would be deeply appreciated by the family.

WELSH - HARVEY - SCHULTZ - STRICKLAND - MURPHY

Patrick Welsh Wed Nov 23 07:58:32 2005
I am looking to share information with the surnames WELSH, SCHULTZ, HARVEY, STRICKLAND, MURPHY, to name a few.
William S. SCHULTZ married Catherine Agnes HARVEY on June 3, 1888. Catherine's mother and father was: J. B. (Joseph) HARVEY and Mary Ann (A. J.) STRICKLAND. William's parents I am unsure of, as he was left at Bethesda Home for Boys when he was only 6 yrs old in 1869 I believe.
Lizzie MURPHY married Thomas WELSH in Savannah also, in 1890. Looking for any information on their sons and daughter. John F. WELSH, Peter J. WELSH, Lawrence P. WELSH, and Anna or Annie WELSH. John WELSH was known as "Martinelli the Great Handcuff King" and traveled around the Nation performing his act. Not much more than that.

If any of this sounds familiar to anyone please contact me, I would like to share information with you and to hopefully tear down that brick wall I am at.
Thank you and God Bless,
Patrick

CAMPBELL

MELINDA ROCKWELL Thu Dec 8 23:18:56 2005
I am trying to find out anything on William Conway CAMPBELL who owned Inverary and a plantation on Skidaway Island. He had a daughter Catherine (CAMPBELL) ROBERTS HAYES and his cousins the Duke of Argyll took over his property. Any info please!! THANKS

CAMPBELL

Caroline Fafeita Fri Dec 16 07:49:33 2005
William Conway CAMPBELL was the son of Lord William CAMPBELL [the last royal governor to SC prior to Am. Revolution}. The family went to London during the Revolution. After the Revolution, William C. CAMPBELL returned from London to Savannah for "visits" to his plantations {Inverary and Springfield}. I believe he was last in Georgia and S. Carolina circa 1814.

Do you have any archived information regarding a marriage or a divorce for William Conway CAMPBELL? He married Elizabeth BLANCHARD, but later the marriage ended with his return to London. Elizabeth then married Stephen ROBERTS. I need to verify this marriage between Campbell and BLANCHARD, either through a marriage bann or divorce.

They had a daughter, Catherine B. CAMPBELL, born 1800. Is it possible her birth would have been published in a newspaper? If so, what was the paper at that time (1800) Were divorce notices published??
I would sincerely appreciate any assistance on this you may give. Thank You, Caroline

LEWIS

Kerima Lewis Fri Dec 30 01:15:08 2005
I am trying to research my paternal grandfather Sanford LEWIS who I believe was born at the end of the 19th Century in Savannah Georgia. It is possible that his name may have been Lemuel Sanford LEWIS. He was only married briefly to my grandmother Cornelia Pearl GIBBS who was born in South Carolina in 1894. She was married previously to a James GREENE in South Carolina. My grandfather may be listed as Black or Mulatto. My father Charles Edward LEWIS was born in 1922 in Chatham County.

The only information I have available about my grandfather is that he was a Merchant Seaman. I have already contacted the National Archives about researching the records for Merchant Seamen. I would like to determine if my grandfather is listed on any historical records such as the state census for Georgia. I would also like to determine the names of slave owners with the surname of LEWIS that lived in Chatham County before emancipation.
I would appreciate any direction you can provide. Thank you.
