GEIGER

Wilson December 7, 1997

CORNELIUS GEIGER b. 20 June, 1821 probably in Ware Co., Ga.  Married in 1847 a Mary Ann Gianovaly in Savannah, Chatham Co.  Had three daughters before the death of  Mary Ann in 1971.  Married a Francis M. Williamson around 1872/73 and had two additional children, a boy and a girl.  Died in Waynesville, Ga. 10 Feb., 1908.  I have tried unsuccessfully to link him to the Bryan Co., Ga Geigers.  Found out at the FHL the other day that there was a Cornelius Geiger born around 1775 who had a son named Martin born in Savannah around 1795.  Since there is a practice of naming sons after Grandfathers, I was wondering if there was a connection between my Cornelius and the Martin/Cornelius of Savannah, Ga.  If anyone can help out with this, I would be most appreciative.  Thank you for your time....S.G.

Family members do not know if this letter was ever answered nor did they have knowledge of the marriage. I would like to locate Arthur and Margaret to give them the information that was requested so long ago.

WOLF(E) - HURST - ROUNTREE

Bud & Judy Mason September 3, 1997

At this time I seek information on possible descents of a Wolfe line located in Effingham and Chatham Co. Ga. Their existence is well recorded in the Ga. Records, but cannot seem to piece all of them together. John WOLF(E) married a Jane HURST in September of 1853 in Effingham Co. Ga. They had several children . One daughter was Roxey Ann WOLFE ROUNTREE. Roxey Ann had at least one sister who resided in Savannah. I think that her name was Mrs. Emmett Coursey, as she attended the funeral of Roxey Ann Wolf Rountree in Egypt, Ga. It is possible that there was another sister listed as Mrs. S.F Wolfe of Savannah. This also could have been a sister-in-law. John Wolf and an Emmett Coursey owned land and ran a store in Egypt, Ga. We know that Roxy Ann Wolf married Cornelius Green Rountree and remained in Egypt. There they raised their 5 children and died there in this little community. They are buried at Turkey Branch Cemetery in Effingham Co. Loving relatives report that Roxey told that her heritage was of Jewish/ Spanish descent.
Who were her grandparents? Did they arrive with many of the early ships that landed in Savannah from Spain? Can anyone enlighten me on this my great-grandmothers line? Thank you, Judy Rountree Mason 27 Eldridge Ave. Hyannis, Ma 02601

HARTE - FURLONG

Jeffery Harte Furlong August 5, 1997

Looking for parents of Jerome HARTE.
My grandfather on my fathers side was originally named Jerome Harte. He was adopted by his Aunt, whose last name was Furlong. Throughout the years our family has kept the Harte name as a middle name for historical reasons. I have heard from my now deceased grandparents that the Harte's used to own a huge estate or plantation in Savannah, or in that vicinity. It was also rumored that they owned much of Savannah years ago. There estate or plantation may have also been used as a boarding home or orphanage for some time. I have been told that it was a very large square structure with a porch that went around the entire second floor.
I have looked up the surname Harte to no avail. I am very limited in my knowledge of genealogy but do have a strong interest in it.
