HOUSTON - FOWLER

Kathy Buss Wed Jan 2 00:07:01 2002
I am looking for William S. HOUSTON . I believe his S. Stands for Strozer. I find it S. P. or G. but his sister Texas A. HOUSTON, Mentions her brother Strozer in a letter in 1882 wanting to know if he is alive. It seems this Strozer HOUSTON married a Louisa HOLMAN dau of Marshall HOLMAN and Katharine Tate of Coweta Co. GA they both died. She wasent happy in the mariage and she went to Atlanta , married again, and then suddenly disappeared as though swallowed up by an earth quake. She was never heard of afterwards, although an estate was left her, which she never claimed.

John HOUSTON and Nicey "Norcissa" Eunice FOWLER
Sons were: Andrew J. HOUSTON
John C. HOUSTON
William S. HOUSTON b. 1844 GA
SO the only one Strozer could be is William S. HOUSTON
Where is William S. HOUSTON in 1870?

I am seeking the names of the parents of Nancy Agnes CARMICHAEL. She was born ca 1821 in Abbeville, S. Caro. and married my ggggrandfather, John Simpson SPRUIELL, in Coweta Co., April 1839. Many decendents name Arthur CARMICHAEL & Frances BELL as her parents, but the research done by the dedicated members of your Genealogical Society on this line, particularly with the burial records of the White Oak A. R. P. Church, indicate that this is not correct. But since I'm unable to find where she does belong, I cannot convince others that Arthur CARMICHAEL and Frances BELL are out ancestors. ZELLARS

Jerry Zollars Sun Feb 24 16:24:32 2002
I am looking for information on the family of Lt(jg) Thomas E. ZELLARS. There is a memorial to him in Grantville. It describes him as follows:
Grantville native Thomas E. ZELLARS (1898-1924) graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1920 and reported for duty aboard the USS Mississippi. As turret commander he rose to the rank of lieutenant. In 1924, an explosion and fire engulfed his turret. ZELLARS and 47 others were killed but not before he opened a flood valve on a burning powder train - an act that saved the ship and its crew. In 1944, Naval destroyer USS Zellars DD 777 was launched in ZELLARS' honor. It went on to serve in both WW II and the Korean War receiving five battle stars. The ship was decommissioned in 1971.
I would appreciate any information.
