MOSELEY - HUBBARD

Lucy Moye Mon Jan 19 13:57:57 1998
I am interested in information about the descendants of David MOSELEY, probably the eldest son of the Rev. Elijah MOSELEY and his second wife, Susannah HUBBARD. Of the nine children of this marriage, David is the only sibling known to have remained in Georgia; the others (apart from the three youngest daughters about whom I have no information) ended up in Dallas Co. AL or Bradley or Ouachita Co. AR. David was a schoolteacher near Macedonia Church in Coweta Co. GA, and may also have been a preacher. On 24 August 1820 in Putnam Co. GA, he married Elizabeth SPIVEY (I'm also interested in information about her...)
The 1830 census of Coweta Co. shows David and Elizabeth with three sons and a daughter born 1820-1825, and two sons born 1825-1830. The 1840 census adds one son born 1830-1835, and a son and a daughter born 1835-1840; one of the sons born 1820-25 is missing. Although I'm still missing two sons, I've attempted to reconstruct the family as follows:
--Joseph Baker MOSELEY (21 July 1821-2 March 1862) m. Nancy Elizabeth Jane STAMPS
--Sarah H. MOSELEY (20 February 1823-16 August 1872) m. William B. RICHARDS
--Jesse Mercer MOSELEY (d. 14 November 1910) m. Sarah RAINWATER
--William Spivey MOSELEY (23 May 1828-19 March 1870) m. Mary Ann Amanda STAMPS
--David Hubbard MOSELEY (ca. 1829-11 November 1910) m.Sarah E. CARSON
--Edward MOSELEY (16 February 1833-2 September 1911) m. Mary Jane HOLLINGSWORTH
--Emily Elizabeth MOSELEY (12 May 1838-1 December 1907) m. John Palmer REESE
In 1860 David and Elizabeth MOSELEY were in Carroll Co., where David was teaching school, but in 1870 they were back in Coweta living with their youngest daugher, Emily Moseley Reese.
Here's the problem:
Apart from William Spivey (his middle name, and he lived two doors down from David in the 1850 census), David Hubbard (1850 census and his middle name), and Emily Elizabeth (1870 census), I have no positive evidence of a family connection between David Moseley and these children (I'm assuming Joseph Baker Moseley was also his son because he and William Spivey married sisters and are buried in the same cemetery.)
The person I'm particularly interested in is Sarah H. Moseley. All the data I'd received in the past showed her as David's sister, the seventh child (of nine) of Rev. Elijah and Susannah Hubbard Moseley, born in 1814. However, her tombstone gives her DOB as 20 February 1823--five months after Elijah Moseley died in Dallas Co. AL, but just right to be the daughter b. 1820-25 the 1830 census shows David to have had.
Does anyone have any evidence to support (or refute) any of this? And who were the other two sons? I'd be really interested in making contact with any of David Moseley's descendants.
