HUGHES - RUSSELL

Karen Hughes Fri Jul 6 12:57:09 2001
I found a will in the index of wills for a Benjamin HUGHES 1849-1892 in Coweta Co. Ga. I think this maybe my husbands great grandfather.

I need to find out if this is the Ben HUGHES I am looking for. Family says that he was shot, killed and robbed when his children were young somewhere in Georgia. His wife Mattie RUSSELL remarried and moved to Tennessee. I found her in the 1900 Census in Rhea Co. TN married to Chris Hood for 5 years. So that would have put her marrying in 1895. There were 4 living children from 7 births, i only found 2 living with her and one married living a couple of houses away in the 1900 census. They were as follows, Rufus b. 1881, Rena b. 1883 and Willie b. 1889.

Could someone please check for death records, read the will and find out if family is listed, and also look for marriage records? Since the 1890 census burned it has thrown a road block in front of me on this search. Thank you, Karen

John (?) & Mary A. REID's children (born between about 1813 and 1835) were Jesse Taylor REID (b. 1830 Coweta GA, m. Ellender HUGHES 1851 Stows Ferry, Tallapoosa Co. I am researching my THOMAS descendancy. My great grandfather was John Walter THOMAS, who was born in 1831, the son (I have been told) of Joseph and Susannah THOMAS. He had these known siblings: Sterling Harrison THOMAS; Thomas Jefferson THOMAS; Susan Cerena THOMAS; Mary Jane THOMAS; and Martha A. THOMAS --- there could have been others.
John Walter THOMAS married Caroline ENDSLEY. He served in the Civil War and afterward brought his family to Texas.
