I am seeking information regarding a Cathcart Family. Theodore Cathcart is one of my great great grandfathers. He married a Lewis and lived in Bibb County, Alabama. He had two brothers that settled in Coweta County, Georgia circa 1825. I got this information from a relative via an input to a family bible. I can provide additional information, but I do recall that one of the Cathcarts first name was Larkin. Do you have any information concerning this family?
Also, I have another great great grandfather from Georgia, Benjamin Franklin Culpepper., born 27 Aug. 1845, d. Sept. 3, 1890. He married a Nancy Howard. B.F. served in Pvt. Pemberton's Cav., 36th GA and perhaps 6th GA Inf. Nancy Howard was from Georgia also. She was born on 27 August 1846, and Died Feb. 19, 1918. After the civil war (they were married in Georgia) they settled in Chilton County, Alabama. They are buried in Cedar Grove Methodist Protestant Church between Clanton and Thorsby, Alabama. Any information regarding the Cathcarts and/or Culpeppers/Howards will be deeply appreciated. Thanks, Jerry Payne Baltimore, MD.

Brian Madaris Thu Aug 7 07:01:34 1997
I am looking for information on William Fletcher MADARIS who lived in Coweta County from 1830 -1871. He was murdered in Newnan in Sept. 1871. According to the 1860 Census he lived in an area called "The Several Township". Is anybody familiar with where this "Township" was located. I am desperately seeking his burial place.
I am also looking for information regarding his wife Barbara Allen BUFORD MADARIS, or any other MADARIS. Our surname has also been found spelled: MEDARIS, MEDEARIS, MCDARIS.
John and Haywood MADARIS owned a Lumber Mill in Coweta County in the 1840's and 50's. There supposedly is a place called "MADARIS SHOALS". I would like to locate this if you are familiar with it. Haywood was one of the first Postmasters of Newnan.

James Roland JONES, pioneer of Walker Co., married Temperance VELVIN in Coweta Co.Ga. 1828. In 1835 moved to Walker Co. where he died 1886. Strong family tradition says that Lydia(Lidy)JONES who married Peter Henry BROWN in Coweta Co.1841 was sister of James Roland JONES. "History of Walker County" says J.R.JONES born White Co. Tn., but other researchers say he is son of James JONES and Elvey ROWLAND who lived in Coweta Co. Ga. and was born in Ga. Can
anyone help with the siblings of J.R.JONES or information about parentage? P.H.BROWN and wife Lydy lived 1850 Coweta Co. Ga., 1860 Cherokee Co. Ala., 1870 Sequatchie Co. My father and I are trying to find any information we can on Bailey Farmer BLEDSOE, who is my GG Grandfather. We found him listed on the 1830 census for Coweta County, then not again until the 1850 census for Carroll County. We have no information on him prior to 1830, or between 1830 and 1850. The period before 1830 is extremely important because he was the first person in our family to live in the US. He immigrated here from Ireland, but we don't know what year he arrived here or where in Ireland he was from. We do know that he was married to RHODA CHANDLER, and they had 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters. We are only sure of one of his children's names, WILLIAM H. BLEDSOE. WILLIAM H. was born in Carrollton, GA in 1830 and he died in 1861, when he was only 31 years old. He was listed on the 1860 census for CARROLL COUNTY. He had 1 son that we know of, BAILEY FARMER BLEDSOE II, who was born in Carrollton in 1854. BAILEY FARMER BLEDSOE II eventually moved to Texas, where my grandfather and my father were born. This information would be most helpful to us:
- Any info on BAILEY FARMER BLEDSOE prior to 1830.
- Date of death; (we think his DOB was Feb.23,1796).
- When he arrived in the US from Ireland(may have arrived in VA, this is later shown as his birthplace).
- Were he and Rhoda Chandler divorced and when?
- When he moved to CARROLL COUNTY.
- Why WILLIAM H. BLEDSOE died at 31; was he killed in the Civil War? Any info on our descendents in COWETA or CARROLL counties would be most helpful!
