Am deeply grateful for assistance in research of a history of the Primitive Baptists of south Mississippi. All of them came to Miss. from Hancock County, Georgia, circa 1820, but I know nothing more. Does anyone have information on the James Valentine FORD or Harmon RUNNELS families, especially if there is a connection between them. Also, what of the Primitive Baptists of Hancock County?
Thank you so much.

I'm searching for any BARKSDALE that came off of the Dickson Plantation (Sparta,GA). I'm a descendent of Charlie BARKSDALE who migrated to Sandersville, Georgia and married Marie BARKSDALE. Charlie passed away in 1970 and Marie passed away in 1977. Charlie had a son name Elmon BARKSDALE and Elmon Sr. had a son name Elmon BARKSDALE Jr. This is my father. All of BARKSDALE more than likely worship at St. Paul C.M.E church and this is where my Grandmother (Susie BARKSTER) and Grandfather (Elmon BARKSTER) are buried. Down through history some how our last name got changed to BARKSTER but on my dad's birth certificate his last name is BARKSDALE.

My great-grandfather wasRichard Lee DOWNS (1852-1939). Richard grew up in Washington County, Georgia. He lived near Warthen, Georgia. A Richard DOWNS is listed in the 1900 Hancock County Federal Census. I am uncertain if this is Richard Lee DOWNS.

Silas DOWNS was his father or grandfather?
Richard's first wife was Martha Elizabeth TANTON. They had a son, Samuel Tildon DOWNS and two daughters, Dorinda DOWNS and Lillian Estelle DOWNS. All three later married into the KITCHENS family and lived in or near Mitchell, Georgia.

Richard's second wife, Angie C. OSBORN, he married Sept. 11, 1890. They had a family, but I know very little about them. Angie C. and Richard Lee DOWNS are buried at Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Washington County, Georgia.
Anything about him you know, please contact me.
