I am looking for any info, pictures or anything else of the Wahpeton Indian School. My mother Jean Rowley lived there as a child. Her parents were Claude & Beulah Rowley, and taught there, also her grandfather John J. Lohr taught there. Jean is almost 87 years old and is in a rest home in Kansas. I started asking her questions about living there and it was so interesting that I wanted to know more about it. She drew a diagram of how the buildings were arranged, she is as sharp as a tack, and told me a lot about the place and the kids. She had some pictures of a group of the boys in their full Indian costumes, a picture of them in dress suits and then 1 in their school uniform. I wrote a story of what she had told me, but would love to have info. from anyone that lives in the area. One question I asked was, "Were the children required by the Govt. to go there, or did they choose to go?" My mother didn't really know the answer to that.
Thanks for any info. Karen Walk
