It is a picture of three men standing outside of what looks like an oyster saloon. There is a sign on the front that says "161 Newton Hatch Oysters". The number 161 is also above the door. We think that 161 is the street number and the saloon might have been owned by the NEWTON / HATCH families. If anyone has info that might pertain to the photo, please let me know. The photo looks like it was taken about 1890.
I am particularly interested in getting a lookup done in the city directories during this time. There is a book on the History of the Newton and Hatch Families dealing with these families in Sherburne and Norwich, NY.

The photo historian of the US Senate is attempting to acquire pictures of about 50 senators for whom she has no likeness on file. I saw a magazine article about this project and offered to help. I'm currently deployed in Iraq, and I use my off duty time to do research. To date, I've helped locate illustrations of five senators, and I've helped three state archives and historical societies correct their records.
Obadiah GERMAN was born in Amenia in Dutchess County on April 22, 1766. He became a lawyer in 1792 and practiced in Norwich. He served in the Assembly in 1798, 1804-1805, and 1807-1809. He was a member of the Democratic-Republican party and an ally of DeWitt Clinton. Obadiah GERMAN was elected to the United States Senate in 1808, and served from March 4, 1809 to March 3, 1815. GERMAN was known as a critic of the lack of military preparations made in advance of the War of 1812, and voted against the declaration of war. After leaving the Senate, he was judge of Chenango County from 1815 to 1819, and was also appointed state commissioner of public works in 1817. GERMAN returned to the Assembly in 1819, and served as speaker. Obadiah GERMAN was also a militia officer, eventually becoming a brigadier general. After leaving the Assembly, he returned to the practice of law. GERMAN became a Whig when that party was organized, and died in Norwich on September 24, 1842.
I appreciate anything anyone can do to assist me.

BROWN
I am trying to find family members and the grave of Ezra & Margaret Chapin BROWN. They were married Nov. 26, 1796 in Rowe, Ma. They both may have born in 1780. Members of the BROWN family moved from Rowe, Ma. to Preston, N. Y. Before that the family had been living in Rehoboth, Ma. Thirty years ago I saw a grave record for an Ezra BROWN 2/6/1780 - 2/26/1838 being in the Mt. Hope Cem. in Norwich, N.Y. This stone has disappeared. Ezra's birth has never been recorded but I know a lot about this family. His daughter Lucy Jane BROWN was born in Rowe and was married to Otis WILSON. They ended up in Sherburne, Vt.
BROWN
For Fellow Genealogists . . . I have typed up a list of all BROWNs buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Norwich before 1881. I copied this list from the office at the cemetery, and would be happy to look up names or send a copy of the list to anyone interested in finding BROWN family in Chenango County.

YAGER
I have been seeking Betty Jean C. YAGER of Oxford, New York. I first met her when I was a Rotary Exchange Student (hosted by the Rotary Club of Stamford, New York) back in 1979-1980. I saw her again when she went to the Philippines as a Rotary Exchange Student back in 1980-1981. I understand that locating her is difficult because she might have changed her name as a result of marriage. Maybe the names of her parents, siblings, relatives, friends, etc. will be helpful?
Any assitance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.
