Harford Mills.

We have our theory of the cause of the unusual weather in this section. We think it is on account of the large number of weddings in this vicinity. They commenced with the bachelor pastor, of the M. E. Church, at Harford, taking to his "buzzum" a young wife. Passing down through different gradations, to the number of half a dozen or more, and culminated in the long looked for union of Mr. Marshal JOHNSON and Miss Nettie FRANK, now of Ithaca, but formerly both of this place.

Not Married.

Last Thursday, while this office was in charge of one of the employees, all the other attaches being at dinner, a couple of ladies called and left three marriage notices with the employee, requesting that they be published in the Democrat. The notices were set up and published in good faith, so far as this office was concerned, but we have since learned that the marriages did not take place. The employee did not suspect that the persons who had the appearance of ladies would be guilty of perpetrating such a fraud. It required considerable cheek, and just such performances may get the perpetrators in serious trouble. The parties who were said to have been married were Horace BABCOCK, of Homer, to Ida HARRINGTON, of this place, Geo. CARPENTER, of Toledo, to Jessie ELLIOTT, of Homer, and J. S. STEWART, of Ithaca, to Etta RYAN, of Virgil.

Harford Mills.

The nuptials of our bachelor friend and townsman, Mr. Robert PURVIS, and Miss Jennie BOUTON, of Marathon, were celebrated at the residence of the bride's father, Dec. 1st. The happy pair started immediately on their wedding tour, to Washington. We are very happy to chronicle this long looked for event. Over half a century has Robert lived in serene celibacy. For long weary years has he sewed on his own buttons in solitude; adjusted his immaculate collar; tied on his own cravat, and gazed helplessly at the holes in his stockings. No deft fingers to put life and animation into the books and toys, upon his parlor table, and the pictures on the walls; or to swing the easy chair into a tempting attitude, and when he made a bad bargain, no one to greet him pettishly, with: "You old fool, you had better have a guardian;" not a family jar, a cross word, or even a frown to mar the tranquility of his uneventful life. Indeed, what a dull, monotonous time he has had. But how changed now! What a halo of happiness will envelope his home, as he comes to it again. The fields will look smoother, the groves more beautiful; the rooms brighter and more airy; the viands upon his table taste sweeter; his coffee have a more fragrant aroma; and the clock on the mantle, how swiftly its hands will skip over the dial. Oh! we are so glad Robert is married! May the choicest blessings which Heaven showers upon those in the matrimonial state fall to him and his thrice happy bride. May the perpetual smile on his face grow deeper and broader, and as the years roll away may the echoes of tiny voices and the patter of little feet fill that old home, from cellar to garret. No doubt the first will be a girl; and we suggest they call it "Eureka."
