Hymenial.
Last Wednesday, Miss Mabelle H. MURPHY [sic], youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. D. MURPHEY, of this place, and Frank M. MILLER, a prominent young business man of New York City, were married, at Grace Church, in this village. The bride is one of Cortland's most beautiful and talented young ladies, and had a large number of friends in this and other places. The groom is a young man of marked business qualifications and social ability, and holds a responsible position with a firm in New York city. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. A. ROBINSON, rector of Grace Church. The doors of the church were opened for the reception of guests at two o'clock, and long before the appointed hour for the ceremony to take place, nearly all of the available seats in the church were occupied by friends of the bride and groom. So anxious were the many friends of the bridal party to get a glimpse of the procession, as it passed to and from the church, that every available spot on the sidewalk and surroundings was literally packed with ladies and gentlemen, who only departed at the conclusion of the ceremony. Precisely at a quarter past three, the appointed hour, the bridal party arrived, and were ushered into the church by Messrs. F. Rollo WOODRUFF, D. Eugene SMITH, Henry A. DICKENSON and Frank E. PLUMB. Immediately after the ushers came the little Misses, Mamie MAHAN, Mabel FITZGERALD and Bessie BENEDICT, each bearing a basket of flowers. Then came the bride and groom, followed by masters Fred. and Ray HARRINGTON, who carried the train of the bride. Next came the immediate friends of the bride and groom, Mr. and Mrs. M. D. MURPHEY, Mr. M. D. MURPHEY, Jr., Mrs. I. R. M. POMEROY, Judge and Mrs. PEABODY. The party proceeded to the altar where the impressive Episcopal marriage ceremony was solemnized. The church about the chancel was beautifully trimmed with flowers, and immediately over where the ceremony was performed, a large bell, made of roses, was suspended.
On either side of the chancel were seated the intimate friends of the bride, and directly in front were the near relatives of the bride and groom. During the arrival and departure of the bridal party at the church, excellent music was furnished by Fred. M. MILLER, from the church organ. The bride was richly attired in a white brocaded velvet, in train and white lace. The groom wore the conventional black. After the ceremony at the church, the party passed out, the little girls strewing flowers before the bride and groom; the guests proceeded to the residence of the bride's parents, in Port Watson street, where a reception was held until six o'clock, when Mr. and Mrs. MILLER took their departure for Syracuse, on the evening train, amid a shower of rice and old shoes. Elegant refreshments were served at the house by Mrs. H. C. JONES, a reputable caterer, of Binghamton. An unusually large number of presents were given, which were rich and useful. Among the guests present from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. PEABODY, of Rochester; Mr. and Mrs. O. E. MORSE, of Seneca Falls; Mr. and Mrs. G. A. SEARS, of Syracuse; Miss Belle COWLES, of Syracuse; Dr. and Mrs. TOTMAN, of Syracuse; Mrs. Wm. SELOVER, of Moravia, and Miss HERTIE, of Elmira. The occasion will long be remembered as the most brilliant and enjoyable affair that has ever transpired in this place, and the newly married pair have the best wishes of a host of friends. Mr. and Mrs. MILLER will visit Niagara Falls, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee and other places, when they will return to New York, their future home.
