South Hill.
The event of the week was the marriage of Miss Viola THAYER and Edwin HICKS at the bride's parents, on South Hill, Wednesday, July 6th at 2 o'clock P.M., Rev. Mr. SMITH of McGrawville officiating. The bride looked charming (as usual) in a beautiful brown silk dress. While the groom wore the conventional black which set off his fine figure to the best possible advantage. Quite a large assemblage did ample justice to the elegant repast prepared for the occasion. The presents were many and useful, but lack of space prevents the mention of each and the donors name. We understand that many of the small boys refrained from celebrating the 4th till that evening.

Married To A Count.
Mrs. Doud, of Racine, Wedded to a Titled Italian.
Racine, Wis., July 22. - Count Frenfanelli CIBO, with his bride, arrived in this city Wednesday evening, direct from Foligno, Italy. The countess was the wife of late Reuben DOUD, a wealthy lumberman, and at one time the mayor of Racine. He was a popular citizen, known for his noble generosity and kind deeds to the poor. Mr. and Mrs. DOUD were married at Oshkosh twenty-five years ago. Her maiden name was Katharine R. REYNOLDS, and her residence Cortland, N.Y. She has a sister in St. Paul. The late Reuben DOUD died five years ago of brain trouble at the Oshkosh asylum, leaving a palatial residence in this city and a fortune of over $200,000. In 1880 the young widow, with her blooming daughter Mamie, her mother, Mrs. REYNOLDS, of New York, and Mrs. McCLURG, of Racine, sailed for Europe for a tour of several years. In October they went to Munich, and attended a passion play at Ober Ammergau. Her Mrs. Doud's mother died of apoplexy and was buried in the Munich cemetery. The party from there went to Italy, making their home at Florence. It was here that her young daughter of 16, remarkable for her beauty, talents and accomplishments, decided, although possessed of ample fortune to study for the concert stage under a famous maestro of Florence, and until a year ago gave her undivided attention to the study of her violin. At that time, it being July, they determined to go to Foligno for the summer in order to see the composer Sig. SASSO, and have his guidance and counsel to Miss DOUD's debut. The following year while at Foligno this young girl met in society Antonio Spinola MAJOLICA, the only son and heir of that family famous and distinguished in the history of Italy. They were engaged to be married and she gave up her idea then of going upon the concert stage. This was in August. They were to be married in the early fall, when she was taken suddenly ill, died, and was buried in Foligno. It was feared that her lover would die from the shock, and since then his family has feared for his reason. He has renounced the world and all fear his life is ruined forever.
Before the illness of Miss DOUD, Signor Antonio SPINOLA introduced to their little circle in the beautiful town of Foligno the Count Franfanelli CIBO. Some time after the death of Miss DOUD her mother was engaged to the count, and the marriage took place at Naples April 27, of this year, and since then they have visited friends and at last arrived safely in Racine, where they will remain for two months, returning to Italy in November. The count's brother married a Miss WILKES, of New York, a member of the aristocratic family of New York, and his niece is the wife of the Maarquis STROZZI, of Florence. The count not only belongs to one of the great families of Italy, but has also made a name for himself in the literary and political world. His home is a beautiful one to which to take his American wife. He is of middle age. In several visits to this country he has made acquaintance with some of the most famous people. He has translated into Italian the life and poems of William Cullen BRYANT, having been a personal friend of the poet. He has been for several years a member of parliament in Rome. He is a polished gentleman of attractive manners. Last night a brilliant reception to welcome the pair was given at the residence of Mrs. McCLURG, attended by the society people of the city. - Sioux City, Iowa, Daily Journal.

A Grand Wedding.
At 7 o'clock on Wednesday evening last, the Presbyterian church in this place was filled, with the friends of Miss Jennie Redfield CLUTE, who had gathered there to witness the ceremony of her marriage to Mr. Charles Otis VOSE, of Joliet, Ill. The bridesmaids were Miss BARRY of New York, Miss STOUTENBURGH of Newark, N. J., Miss CAVANAUGH of Newburg, N.Y., and Miss BAUDER of Cortland. The grooms [sic] were Messrs. A. F. STILLSON, A. L. CHAPLIN, F. J. PECK and D. D. BARRY, all of Cortland. The bride and groom entered the church and passed up the aisle preceded by their attendants, while Mrs. H. G. SMITH played the wedding march upon the organ. The bride's dress was a beautiful ivory-white silk with pearl trimmings and train. The groom's present, an elegant diamond cluster pendant, and orange blossoms were in her hair. The bridesmaids were all elegantly and tastefully dressed and the bridal party presented a brilliant appearance as they stood before the altar.
Rev. J. L. ROBERTSON performed the ceremony in his usual happy manner. A reception was held at the residence of the bride's mother after the ceremony, where the newly wedded pair received the congratulations of their many friends. Delicious refreshments were served to the guests and the occasion was one of splendid social enjoyment. The bride received many very beautiful and valuable presents from her large circle of friends and acquaintances. She presented each bridesmaid with a clover-leaf pin set with diamonds and the groom presented each of the groomsmen with a pair of gold-link sleeve buttons. Mr. and Mrs. VOSE left on the 10:23 P.M. train, and will visit Florida and other southern points before their return, which will be in about four weeks. There were many friends from abroad, among whom we noticed the following: Mr. William GRINTON of Joliet, Miss PIERSON of Newburgh, Mr. and Mrs. A. S. THAYER and Mrs. Sanford THAYER of Syracuse, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. VOSE, Mr. and Mrs. A. VOSE, Mrs. J. C. LATTA and Mr. and Mrs. DEAN, of Ithaca.
Fischer's orchestra furnished music for dancing after the departure of the bride and groom, and the young people made merry for some hours later.
The good wishes of all the acquaintances of the amiable and accomplished bride follow her, and will be with her always.
