The St. Clair County marriage record for Shubal DUTTON and Emily DEFOE has a date of 1865 but was altered sometime later to 1861. Civil Pension application of Oct. 1865 has the date as 1861. Can't be 1865 as he died in 1864. The pension application filed by Emily DUTTON includes the following: "...the names and ages of her children under sixteen years of age at her husband's decease, and the place of residence is as follows: Shubal DUTTON aged 4 years. That he had the children by a former wife. Kittie DUTTON aged 14 years Eugene 12 years & George DUTTON aged, 9 years. That they reside in Columbus St. Clair Co. Mich. The P.O. address is St. Clair, Mich." Witnesses to hr affidavit were John MASON and Joseph BRAYMAN, both of St. Clair.

There is also a marriage record for Emily DUTTON as follows:
Marriage Record for Emily DUTTON
Spouse: Nathaniel LENARD
Date: 3 Mar 1866 Place:St. Clair Residence:St. Clair Age: 37

The younger Shubal, aka Charles DUTTON, is my ggrandfather and I have other information concerning him and his descendants but always welcome more. I know nothing about first marriage to Mary J. THORNTON - BROWN

Barbara Trott Thu Apr 29 19:49:30 2004
Celinda THORNTON according to the 1865 New York State Census was born in Madison County. According to the Family Bible she was born March 07, 1826. I don't know if she was raised in Madison County and married there or if her family moved on to Ontario County. She married John N. BROWN born January 07, 1826 and they must have married about 1844.
According to the enlistment paper of their son Orland M. BROWN he was born in Farmington, Ontario Co., NY July 17, 1846. John N. and Celinda (THORNTON) BROWN are found in the 1850 Census in the town of Prattsburg, Steuben Co., NY in the 1850 Census. At the time of the 1860 Census Celinda is listed in Canandaigua, Ontario Co., as a widow with a young son John N. BROWN Jr. listed as being born in Michigan.

John and Celinda had 6 children during their marriage, Orland M. born in 1846, Levi Willard born 1848 (sometimes he went by the name Levi and sometimes by Willard), Louisa J. born 1849, Rufus Elliot born 1850 he died in 1862 and is buried in Prattsburg, NY., Edgar Watson born in November of 1855, he may have died in Michigan also; then is John N. BROWN, Jr. born Sept. of 1857, he died in 1879 and is buried in Canandaigua, NY. I would say from the above info. that John N. BROWN, Sr., died in Michigan sometime between 1857 and 1860 although 1856 is also possible.

If anyone working on a THORNTON Family History could help me with information on Celinda THORNTON and/or John N. BROWN I would greatly appreciate the help. I don't know where John was born. The only information is from the Family Bible and it does not give either Celinda's or John's parents. I am sort of at one of those brick walls and sure could use some help.
Thank you,
Barb Trott

LEE

Mary Bigley Sat May 15 23:44:13 2004
I am researching the LEE family who started the Charles A Lee Chair Company. I belieive Albert LEE of Boonsville started the company (originally he was a farmer) then later some of his sons became involved and the company grew. I have found information about them all via the Internet, but what I would like to know is where was the company situated, is it still in existance and if not when did it finish?
Some members of the family lived on Lenox St, Oneida in the period 1910-1930.
Any help appreciated.
Regards
Mary Bigley ( England)

CAREY / CARRY / CARY

Paula Smith Sat May 22 11:30:10 2004
From the Civil War pension file for Archibald A. CAREY/CARRY, I found the following info: Archibald A CAREY b 1822 Madison Co, NY. Archibald married Julia FREEMAN (b abt 1834 possibly Tioga Co) on 11-14-1852 at the home of her father--Elias FREEMAN in Sullivan NY. Julia's sister Rosaltha FREEMAN (later married a CORNELL) was bride's maid. Miles BEACH was groomsman. (Methodist pastor was G. A. ATWELL). Obviously, the FREEMANs had moved to NY from CT, but I don't know where to find them on census or other records.

Archibald's father (possibly last name CARRY) was born in CT. Julia's father was also born CT. Both mothers born NY.

I found Arch, Julia in IL where daughter Deborah was born abt 1854. They went on to WI & finally in Winneshiek Co, IA where they remained.

Please help me find the CAREY / CARRY / CARY & FREEMAN fathers b in CT, & then in NY (probably late 1700's), as well as the siblings of Arch & Julia. Please forward this to anyone else who might be able to help.

KENEDA / KENNEDY

Maggie Goldsmith Fri Jun 4 10:36:41 2004
Needing help! Searching for any land record/deed information for a Robert KENEDA or KENNEDY living at Brookfield at the time of the 1800 Census. I expect he would have purchased property between 1790 and 1800 and possibly sold again between 1800-1810. I'm attempting to (dis)prove that he is my ggggrandfather who settled first in Montgomery Cty circa 1785; lived at Canajoharie Twp, Montgomery Cty in 1790; lived at Brookfield Twp, Chenango Cty in 1800; and moved finally to Penfield, Boyle Twp, Ontario Cty by 1810.
Any and all help much appreciated.
