STARR

Robin Wed Sep 13 04:34:19 2000
My grandfather, Hobert Henry STARR, operated a jewerly store called "Starr's Little Watch Factory" in Richland, Wi. in 1903. It was destroyed by a cyclone, along with his home. Does anyone have any information about that event? Family tradition has the cyclone taking out the main street of the town. Hobert was in his store, waiting on a lady customer when it hit, and as I remember the story, he was carried a block or so by the cyclone, blacked out, and when he woke up he was laying in scattered rubble, his hand clutching the shoe of the lady who had been in his store. She was killed. If anyone knows anything about Hobert STARR and his wife, Myra, or about the cyclone that hit the town, I would love to hear from you. My email address is, www.rwood99@hotmail.com

DUNN - JACKSON - BANKS - GROSHONG

James R. Hillman Mon Oct 23 06:11:37 2000
To Whomever: I am seeking a person familiar with the DUNN, BANKS, JACKSON families which moved to Wisconsin from Iowa in the 1880's. I hope someone in the area is a genealogist who has done work on these families, and can help me. I understand that the GROSHONG name is also associated with these families. Specifically, Rosanna Jackson BANKS, born 1849, married first, James BANKS; and after his death in about 1883 (maybe a divorce) married second Henry DUNN, born in Canada, April 1837. Rosanna died in 1909 and is buried in Muscoda, catholic cemetery; and Henry DUNN died in 1906, we don't know where he is buried. It is not alongside Rosanna. They lived in Orion, Wisconsin during the 1900 Census, in town, listed as a day laborer. They had three children together, and she had five or six children from BANKS, including a James J. BANKS (probably eldest son) who signed her death certificate. Their three children were:
Myrtal DUNN b. 1884, Lansing, Iowa
Malcolm Francis DUNN b. 12 Jan 1891, Lansing, Iowa
Mark W. DUNN b. 20 Nov 1892, Lansing, Iowa

We descend from Malcolm Francis DUNN; and Alice C. JOHNSON, a teacher in the schools around Lone Rock, was married to Mark W. DUNN.
Any help would be appreciated. You may call me at 270-247-2296 if that is easier or the person doesn't have a computer. Thanks, Jim Hillman
