I am reserching my McMICHEN family history. We know there were McMICHANs aboard the Ship Brittania which arrived in 1772 but find no record of them following this arrival other than much later when the name appears in Bartow and Paulding County, GA. The above listed surnames are all variations on the spelling of the modern day McMICHEN.

I'm trying to find out who my great grandfather was. My grandfather (great grandfather's son) was James Pierpont DUGGAR. He had a few brothers and grew up in (I believe) Chatham or Savannah, Georgia. My grandfather passed away when my mother was very young and none of us know anything about his family or ancestors.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Chatham County Censuses for 1850 depicts the family of Thomas E. SHAW, steamboat captain, age 29, born in GA,
His wife, Ann E., is 27, SC, daughter Lara [Laura] E., 27, born in GA,
William A., 5, GA; James B., age 6, born GA.
In the 1860 census, this family remains in Chatham County, without Thomas E. SHAW, and the family is residing with James G. CORNELL, believed to be the brother of Ann E. SHAW.
I am searching for any information on this family. William A. [possibly Alexander] may have relocated to Scott County, Arkansas by the 1880 census, and may have married a Ellen F. MITCHELL.
Any assistance will be appreciated.

I live in Athens and my mother will be visiting me in early April, and we hope to visit Savannah then and visit cemeteries & etc. where they may be located. Any help you can give is appreciated.

I have found a letter dated 1883 APO Savannah and hope someone out there may recognize who may have written this letter as the last page is missing:
Dear Brother:
I write you these few lines to inform you that I received your kind letter of the 28th and was very glad to hear that you and your family were well as this leaves me and my family at present. I sent letter to Brother John sometime ago but never received an answer. I see from your letter that he received it. I cannot give you any particulars as to Frank's death. I wrote Jimmie, her son, to try and find out something. I got a letter from him but he never said anything about it. I suppose Harper would not let him. Harper was in town during the Centennial but never came by to see me or tell me anything about her death or sickness. We heard from Capt DAY's son that she had died of pneumonia. But I believe Frank freted herself to death. Harper has been drinking very hard for a long time. Frank left 5 children, the oldest girl Maud is with Capt DAY's wife. Jessie is with some lady at Lumber City but I canot find out who it is the boys Jimmie, Thomas and Ro bert are staying with at Lumber City. Their father is running on Capt Days' Boat. Lizzie died in confinement she left 2 children: Milo and Harry - they are in Augusta. I heard you were married but did not know how many children you had. I have been married since 1875 and have had six children. 5 Girls and 1 boy. I have not but three living. My boy is about six weeks."
This is all of the letter and it was found in Emerson Brown AWTRY's bible given to him by his father: James Hill AWTRY (son of Jacob and Isabella) and mother: Martha Cleveland REEVES in the year 1899. I would appreciate any help with this mystery letter writer. awtryp@yahoo.com thank you.

Can someone please look up the marriage and/or divorce of Marvin A SIMMONS, and a Gertrude ? I know Gertrude was in Chatham Co in 1923, as Gertrude SIMMONS. They were separated at the time. It's possible her maiden name was HAM. She was 35 years of age in 1920 meaning her date of birth would be about 1885. They probably married between 1908 and 1920. In 1924, Marvin was married to another lady.

I am looking for the marriage record for William Henry SHUMAN b 1805 in Bryan County, GA. He was the son of William Henry SHUMAN b 1880 d 1806 and Polly BRIDGES (Shuman BANDY) and grandson of Martin Henry SHUMAN b 1740 and Tabitha. William b 1805 was married in or around Bryan County before 1830. His first son, John Rutherford SHUMAN, was born on 29 May 1829 in Bryan County. I am trying to find the name of his first wife. Some records say Martha SHEFFIELD, but there are records that contradict that information. William moved to Thomas co, GA in the early 1830's where he married Sarah Ann SHEFFIELD in 1835. William's best friend and cousin was Samuel G SHUMAN of Bryan County.
