I'm looking for information on my great-grandmother MATHILDE JOHANSSEN, GUNDERSEN, born on 9-6-1886 In the 1900 census for Norway I found her with the name of VALE,which I believe it to be a farm name at that time she was still living with her parents, and brothers, and the family name was JOHANSSEN but later was changed to GUNDERSEN,what I'm looking for is any thing that could tell me what port she emigrated from Norway though and what port she Immigrated though in the USA and what ship she was on and if anyone came with her in 1906 since she was only around 19 years old.I believe she lived in Cass, Fargo,ND up to 1909 when she married my great-grandfather CORNELIUS MARTIN CHRISTIANSEN and than had their first child also in 1909 in Fargo,ND and than moved on to Minnesota the names of some of the area that they live were Beltrami county in Lammers township and also Kittson county in Hallock and Thomson townships and than moved to ST. Paul, Minnesota Ramsey county had a son there and moved to Minneapolis, Hennepin county where some time after 1909 the family than took the name of SEVERSON, and lived there until their deaths.
If anyone knows of this family and can help me answer these questions than please e-mail me at kdo3870869@AOL.COM Thanks, Karen

Alice May (Mae) b. 10 Mar 1880 Fargo, ND m. Arthur L.BARNES 1898 in Berlin, Green Lake, WI d. 1943 Berlin, WI f. Almonzo GREENLEY m. Minnie NELSON
I cannot find any records on Alice to confirm her birthplace or parents and ancestors. Marathan CO. WI shows a Marriage Record for an Almonzo B.GREENLEY and Jennie WILLIAMS on 5 Feb 1880. I don't know if thiis is the same Almonzo as Alice's father or if there is another Almonzo. I also found an Almonzo B. Greenley on the Ransom Co. Cemetery Transcription and also a Orsamus GREENLEY who I believe is Almonzo B. Greenley's father. A Minnie Nelson appears in the 1885 Dakota Territory Census in Fargo. Lauriette DEWEY m. Orsamus GREENLEY>NY who sons are Almonzo B. and Clinton O. Greenley. They located to Waupaca, WI>ND. The Dewey Genealogy book says that soon after moving West Lauriette's husband died and she married a Zopher NELSON. Did Zopher have a sister Minnie Nelson who could be Alice's mother? I hope someone will know something of this family and any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I am a sophomore at St. Francis High School and am writing a paper on the book TRACKS by Louise Erdrich. While the names have been changed, I am trying to discover if the events in the book actually happened or if any of the characters, places, etc are based on historical fact. Can anybody identify Turcot Lumber Company, Pukwan (a Native American Family), the town of Argus, the Lake Matchimanito, a 1913 tornado, or a consumption epidemic on a reservation around 1912?

Seeking information about an M. O. THORSON and his wife, Thora Marie BEAVER (she may sometimes have used the patronymic Johannesdatter/Johnson) who resided in Cass County, ND at least during about Feb-June 1891. Thora Beaver (who occasionally may have used Marie as her first name) was born in Norway 22 Jan 1871 and emigrated in 1875. By 1880 she was living in Becker County, MN; by 1885 she was age 15 and living in Rolette Co, ND. She is said to have lived in York, Benson Co, ND from 1886-1890 and to have died at place unknown in 1911. At points she may have resided in Hay Twp of Cavalier Co, and in Washington, ND. It is believed she helped to operate one or more hotels in those areas. I know less about her husband Thorson -- whose first name may have been Marcus, Martin, Matias, or Michael (Mikkel?).
Any additional evidence of this couple in Cass County would be much appreciated. Are they
possibly buried in Cass County? THANKS! Mike Oiseth, Bloomington, MN.

My gt gt grandmother, Sigri ENGER (b Sigdal, Norway), married either Nilso Olson TROMALD or his brother Peder Olson TROMALD circa 1880, possibly in Cass Co.
The three of them are buried in N. Pleasant Cem., outside Hickson. Dates on tombstones are: Sigri b.24 May 1841 d.3 Jul 1926; Nils b.12 Nov 1845 d.7 Oct 1883; Peder b.13 Jun 1849 d.20 Feb 1885.
Sigri's husband supposedly died 3 years after they were married, of gladers (a horse disease). But which brother was her husband? Family says Nils, but she is buried on same side as Peder's inscription.
Am writing the Lutheran Church in Hickson (formerly Red River?, into which N. Pleasant merged in 1940) to see if records are there.
Where were the Tromald brothers from? Haven't found them yet in 1880 Census.

I am seeking info on OLE JOHANSEN SORBY (or SORBYE), half brother of my great-grandfather Lorents Sorby.
Ole would have been born about 1860, most likely on the Sørbye Farm, Rakkestad, Ostfold, Norway. His father was Johan Olsen Sørbye (b. February 24, 1837 in Rakkestad) and his mother was Juliane Knatrod (or Knatterud). Ole's mother Juliane died along with his two brothers in a dyptheria epidemic in the mid 1860's, and Ole went to live with his grandmother Thale Cathrine Simensdatter Sorbye. Meanwhile Ole's father Johan remarried and had 6 children, the oldest of which was my great-grandfather. After Ole's grandmother died, he is said to have emigrated to USA to what was then known as "the Dakotas" and farmed and died there, most likely in the Fargo area.
I have no record of his children or wife. However, I notice there are several people with the name Sorby in the Fargo, North Dakota area and I am wondering if any of them could be his descendants.
Ole might have just taken the name Johansen or Johannesen as his father was Johan. It is not clear in family records.
I would appreciate any info or leads on how to find out about him.
Thank you.
Bob Shoring

Wondering if Marianne RUSSELL, Stanley TWP in Cass Co 1880 Census is my great grandmother. They came from Canada, probably Quebec and settled in Wild Rice around 1871. Their name was ROUILLARD and her husband froze to death in a snowstorm. An early pioneer, Georgiana RIVARD recalled the family in an article written by the FORUM 24 MAR 1957. They changed their name to RUSSELL and my grandfather and father's names were both Pierre or Peter.
